Written for a major supporting character in my creative writing, this piece (and the whole symphony) tells the story of the titular Prince of Fools. Serving as the grand introduction to the symphony and the character, this movement introduces the character’s leitmotif.

Regarding the scene this movement is played against in my story, the Prince of Fools arrives by caravan to meet with his brother regarding matters involving politics, relations, their other siblings, and the succession of their father’s throne. Tense, yet having a dramatic flair, the atmosphere created by this character is reflected in the composition and orchestrations. At this point in the story, the main character, who is a witness to all of these events, cannot yet tell where this character stands regarding strength and morality.
